Second half or loop not completed first time, see Walk No.107 for the description of the other half of walk 'AA136'. Walked through gate at end of car park and continued along well defined path through wood to Heathwaite. I was expecting to arrive at Far Arnside, but at the first walk I entered a clearing. This time I continued and descended a very steep slope to the coastal path. Continued along the good coastal path, but disappointed not to see any views or water due to thick woods on the sea shore. Not sure of my way around New Barns Caravan Site, but all well after the map was studied carefully. From the caravan site road the way crossed a fenced field, past an old tractor and a 'Rare Breed' cow, back into Arnside Park, Copridding Wood. Crossed outgoing path without knowing while looking for track to Arnside Tower. No track found but directions from a couple walking in the area didn't help. I found myself on the summit of Arnside Knott by the OS Column, enjoying the wonderful views of the estuary and the surrounding hills. Skirted field and steep descent looking for track from Arnside. Stumbled across the car park in the trees, knowing I had been walking for twice the estimated time. Sylvia reading in the car, fortunately car was parked in shade.

Hazards: Good map required. Correct track not found to south of car park on both attempts to complete the walk. Take track towards Arnside Tower, then take right track to Hollins Farm and Far Arnside. Click Here to Return to 'Lifetime of Walks' Homepage | |||||
