Description:
Started walk from car park by Tweed Bridge, Peebles, on the B7062, South East Scotland. Left Sylvia reading her book in the car. Weather good, short sunny intervals with a small threat of rain. Short detour over bridge to town, path Parish Church. No time to take a look around, unfortunately. Very pleasant walk from bridge along River Tweed to Artists' Rock, with its fine view of Neidpath Castle. Easy to see why this point is so popular with the painters and drawers. Stopped to watch the fishermen fly fishing, literally in the river. Didn't see any fish caught. The fishermen have obviously more patience than me. Returned to footbridge from Artists Rock and turned away from the river, to cross old railway bed with its many rabbits. Route changed from '4' to '5', compared with walk description. New Industrial Park between old railway and lane at point '5'. Steady climb from '5' to '6', with good views from point '6' of surrounding hills and more fishermen in River Tweed by Manor Bridge. Watch for local traffic on steep lane from '6' down to Manor Bridge. Two options from stile after Manor Bridge. Along the old railway bed, high above the river, or on the meadows next to the river. You start the walk (pay the money) and take your choice. An old trainspotter would take the railway route. If I had more time I would have explored over the old railway bridge. Had to keep up a reasonable pace, to reduce the nagging when I returned to the car. Good views of the river around the bend in the river to Neidpath Castle. Steep slope from path to river just before '9', at the Sliders. Care required. Always stop to take a photo, walking slowly onwards could cause a trip. Close up views of Neidpath Castle and fast flowing River Tweed just before continuing along river bank to Hay Lodge Park and footbridge at '4'. Retraced steps along southern river bank to car park. Another enjoyable Scottish river walk under the belt.
