Points of Interest and LINKS:
Hellidon Jurassic Way Lower Catesby
Description:
We took the car to Hellidon and parked in the road by the 'Red Lion' public house. We walked up Stockwell Lane into the village, past Holly Bank to the very quiet Catesby Lane, following the Jurassic Way. We turned off the lane at the Old Coach House, Lower Catesby, turning right along the avenue of trees. We walked around Catesby House and up the steep hill with a new fence on the right, to Upper Catesby. It was a short walk down the lane to Longridge Farm, for a track ahead towards Highfield Farm. We followed footpaths around the farm, giving the farm a wide girth of a field. When we reached the air shaft from the Catesby railway tunnel below, we found horses grazing all around. We continued onwards across the Hellidon Road and descended to Leam Pools, the source of the River Leam. We had to fight the undergrowth in places, but the scenery on the Hellidon Side was well worth it, with undulating pastureland broken by the occasional clump of bushes or trees. It was a delightful setting on a nice day, or if the light was shining through a gentle mist. A short walk took us back into Hellidon Village before returning to the car and another interesting Cousins' Walk. Well done Laz, yet again.
