South West Coastal Path No. 28 Total Miles: 281 Time Taken: Cycle: Distance: Enjoyment: Weather: 5.5 hours 0.75 miles 10 miles 90% Drizzle Wildlife: Rabbits and Shags Temp: Cloud: Rain: Visibility: Conditions: 17oC 100% 65% Mist Drizzle Points of Interest: Marazion Perren Sands Cudden Point Lesceave Cliff Porth Leven Rinsey Head Megliggar Rocks Porthleven General: Parked car in Porthleven car park next to Cost Cutter supermarket. Cycled along B3304 to A394 and long steep hill. Parked bike by Henfor Terrace sign in Marazion, near cemetery. Good view of St Michael's Mount on path to beach. Short walk on boulders along edge of beach to steel steps. Misty views in all directions. Much of walk between two high walls of bushes, Took wrong direction after Perren Sands. Was the sign turned? Walked along bouldered beach again by Trevean Cove. Thought it odd, should have checked maps closely. Scrambled so far I had to continue and find a way up to the official path. Rock became huge and dangerous. Eventually found a route upwards at Trevean Cove. Relieved to get back on track. Passed the impressive Acton Castle Lodge to Cudden Point. Some heather very colourful on Point. Watched swimmers at Bessy's Cove, then thought I was lost again by Kenneggy Sands, but a lack of signs made the choice of direction difficult. Passed many impressive holiday homes near Kenneggy Sands. Steep descent to stream near Hue Point with its many colourful wild flowers. Praa Sands very commercialised. Because of the inclement weather, the long sandy beach was deserted. Signs poor along beach head. Used road instead of heavy going soft sand. Walked through a private estate with well kept verges of flowers, then luckily stumbled upon a Way finger post. Another steep ascent up Lesceave cliff. Pity views were so misty. Deep mine shafts fenced off on Rinsey Head. Surprised to see the impressive engine houses on the cliff edge. After Rinsey Head another surprise at the next head, Trewavas Head, with strange rock formation. Which way is the face pointing, to land or sea? Then an impressive couple of spider webs. Difficult to record with camera. Very strange but impressive rock layers in rock face near Megliggar Rocks. Big contrast of rock layer colours. Chased by bullocks near Tremearne, had to run for the stile. Stray sheep on path near Methleigh, couldn't get back into field. Several speed boats and tanker passed as I neared Porthleven. Steep climbs around inlets, with gulls and shags resting on ledges and rocks. Policeman watched me walk past one of the inlets. Monument to mariners shipwrecked in the area in the past. Three local boys had photo taken on monument. Good path down into impressive fishing village of Porthleven. Hurried to car as drizzle became heavy. Bought an ice cream from shop.
