Description:
After our usual breakfast at Tesco Warwick, we drove to Middleton Cheney, Northamptonshire, parking on 'Main Road' outside the Public Library. The Library was closed, so we weren't preventing anyone from parking. From the car we walked along High Street to Church Lane and All Saints Church. Unfortunately the church was locked so we couldn't look in the church but we were impressed with Horton Tomb. We continued down the picturesque Church Lane to the footpath of the Jurassic Way, leading N/W from the village, passing calves just before the B4525 main road. Care required crossing the road, before we continued on the Jurassic Way. Watch for the sharp right turn on the track leading to Chacombe House. Splendid woods around the House and its Park. Good view from the field west of the house, across the valley to Chacombe Priory and beyond. Further good views of Chacombe Village on descent from the Park. Laz couldn't resist stroking the village cat just before the Banbury Road. Short walk past the closed George & Dragon Public House to Church Lane and a bite to eat on the bench by the Church of Saints Peter & Paul. We completed the circular walk directly back to Middleton Cheney, passing the Cherwell Edge Golf Course, the immaculate drive of Castle Farm and the Mobile Home Centre on the B4525. We entered Middleton Cheney from the north, passing the Parish Church again and the Red Lion Public House. We changed our boots at the car and drove on through the village to a good meal in the New Inn Public House. Thanks to Laz for another good day's walking and to Den for using his photographs. My camera was safely sat on the kitchen table. I'd lose my head if it wasn't screwed on.
