Description:
Breakfast at Tesco's as usual, then a slow drive towards Brailes Village for the start of the walk. Five in the car for this walk. We were joined by Phil Onions, a retired Civil Servant and old friend of Ken's. We drove through Brailes Village and started to look for a good parking spot to start the walk. After a long detour visiting Long Compton and Hook Norton we decided to park in De Mohu Close by the Norman Night Public House, Whichford. From the War Memorial in the centre of Whichford we took the lane up the hill towards Whichford Wood. This wasn't the path we were expecting, so we had to scrutinise the map very carefully around Doctor's Barn, taking a path which wasn't marked on the map. Soon recovered and walked along the southern edge of Whichford Wood, when we realised that the dog walkers were using a good track just inside the wood. A short way along the track we came across a crude swing hanging from a high tree branch. How is got there will remain a mystery, but I couldn't resist a swing in the 'jungle'. As we continued along the track we noticed the grave stone of a dog's burial site. Was the swing and the stone connected. What would my fate be when the swing stopped swaying? From Whichford Wood we skirted Long Compton Woods and crossed a quiet lane to Margett's Hill and Margett's Cottages. Here the line of a public footpath had been changed to accommodate some converted apartments and cottages. Steady descent from the cottages into picturesque Cherington Village, with its own attractive cottages. From Cherington main street we continued past the war memorial into Stourton Village. As we approached the huge wooden ants on the grass verge we turned to the left through the gate and onto the footpath back towards Whichford Village. Lots of stiles between fields of cattle and sheep to Long Cliff Coppice, where we enterted a mature 'Corn on the Cob' field with the path disappearing between the eight feet plants. When we emerged from the otherside we stopped for a break. This is where I realised that my sandwiches were still in the car boot. All these distractions added to the confusion as we diverted from the planned route. We were walking towards Ascott Village instead of a direct route to Whichford. Another close inspection of the map brought us back into Whichford and the parked car. Steady drive back to Warwick for a welcome pint in the Millwright Arms. Yet another enjoyable day with the boyz.

Hazards:
Always study the map closely between jokes. Difficult to focus the eyes after Laz's descriptive stories.
