Easier walking than the summer months after a dry spell of weather, but rough ground hard on the ankles. Short detour to the north of Pinehurst due to a funeral service in the church yard. No muddy patches in South Cubbington Wood. As we emerged from the eastern side of the wood, John heard and spotted a buzzard flying towards North Cubbington Wood. Good to see large graceful birds flying around. From Weston Hall we walked towards the River Leam, with good views in the warm sunshine across the Leam Valley to Hill Farm on the Fosse Way Roman Road. Water levels in the River Leam very low, considering the record volumes of rain during the summer months of June, July & August. We continued past Fields Farm to Manor Farm and the old hand pump in the adjacent field to the farm buildings. In Offchurch village we passed The Stags Head Public House and the delightful cottages, some with thatched roofs. Over the stile near the village centre & into the Bury. Delightful walking through the park, past the huge modern straw bales and the coniferous trees, to the Horse Trials Course. Here we could see, up close, the difficult challenges of the jumps for the horses. Must be very dangerous for the horse riders when the horse refuses a jump. New shale paths around White Bridge, probably due to the summer floods washing away the original paths. Lovely walk from the Bury via Redhouse Farm, Runghills Wood and Glebe Farm into Cubbington Village. Back to Pinehurst to inspect Doug's building skills. Building updates to come. Another very pleasant Warwickshire Ramble with John in the warm sunshine. Location: www.streetmap.co.uk, - Start & finish from Cubbington 434360/268445 , - via Offchurch Bury 434825/265950, - via Offchurch Village 435875/265875. (Click on location and use Zoom). Hazards: Watch your step when the ground is very hard. The farmers furrows and the cattle hoof prints can be ankle twisting if care isn't taken. Keep strictly to the public footpath through Offchurch Bury Park. I consider these parks as someone's back garden. Unfortunately there is only one path through the park. Better than none at all.
