Description:
Arrived in London opposite the Victoria Coach Station by MEGABUS. Walked along Elizabeth Street, Lyall Street & Lowndes Street to Knightsbridge. Continued past Brompton Road, with Harrods visible through the heavy and slow traffic, towards the Vietnam Embassy. Steady walk along Kensington Road past a ancient milestone to Albert Hall & Albert Memorial. Onwards to Victoria Road and the Vietnamese Embassy so Colin could arrange to obtain a visa. Returned to Kensington Road and Hyde Park. Walked along 'The Broad Walk' to Kensington Palace, the Victoria Statue & 'The Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Playground'. Returned towards 'The Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain', passing the 'Round Pond', 'The Physical Energy Statue' and the Serpentine. Returned again to Royal Albert Hall via Lancaster Walk and onto the Science Museum. Enjoyable visit to museum before continuing along Kensington Road & Knightsbridge, passing Wellington Arch, Grosvenor Place, The Royal Mews, Victoria Street to New Scotland Yard. Drizzle, heavy at times, as the light faded passing the Yard and Parliament Square. Good views of Westminster Abbey & Houses of Parliament in the lights. Walked over Westminster Bridge to County Hall & 'The Eye' admiring the bright lights of the London Skyline. Retraced steps yet again to Whitehall. Continued down Whitehall past the Cenotaph to Downing Street. Asked the security for a photo of the Prime Ministers Street through the iron bars but was refused. Suddenly a car sped out of the gates. The security men delayed closing the gates for a couple of seconds while I took the photo. Onward to Trafalgar Square where we enquired and found a Wetherspoons Public House. After being fed and watered we continued through Admiralty Arch and down The Mall. We were passed by numerous joggers & cyclists. One cyclist was tooted loudly when he changed lanes too quickly while trying to turn right. This can be a fatal movement in Central London. At the bottom of The Mall we reached the tourist attraction of Buckingham Palace, with the illumination lights shining brightly. It is easy to see the beauty of the building and the statues. Slow amble past the Palace to Victoria and a cup of tea in a cafe waiting for the Megabus to Coventry. A delightful but tiring day in Central London was enjoyed by Colin & myself.

Location: - www.streetmap.co.uk, - Start & finish from Victoria 434360/268445, - via London Eye 433350/265810, - via Trafalgar Square 436045/269200. (Click on location and use Zoom).

Hazards: The best way to enjoy Central London is by foot, if fitness and weather allows. However it is very important not to rush, especially when crossing the roads and streets. The traffic is horrendous, amazing volume with vehicles & cyclists arriving from all directions, often ignoring the signs and traffic lights.
