Description:
General rain from cold front was forecast by the weathermen for several days, but every forecast was wrong.

Good parking was found beside the reservoir. Sylvia was reading a book in the car. It was a slow descent from the car and I took a left fork from Plymouth Leat at standing stone, gradually descending to the bottom corner of the wood at '3', ignoring the many paths and tracks around. Horses and bulls were seen in the field before '5', all busy grazing. Children were playing by houses just after '5', no adult to be seen and no problems of insecurity. That's as it should be. Care was required at the end of the walled track after '6' where trees had recently been felled. I crossed the stone bridge over a stream and proceeded diagonally left to a stile at the bottom edge of the wood. I continued through the wood of varied types of trees to a lane and onto a telephone box at the junction in Lovaton Village. Phone, text and email were all possible from the box. I took the walled track from '9', crossed diagonally past standing stone to a gate and continued in the same direction to the corner of the field and lane past Marchant's Cross to a tree just before Yeo Farm. Strange black rubber type growths were visible on the tree trunk. There was a well signposted detour around Yeo Farm. Watch out for signposts in obscure places past Burrator to Sheepstor Village. I continued through the village to a lane and ascent to Sheeps Tor. I spoke to a lady who was garaging her car and she advised continuing up the lane past huge boulders to a strip of grass from the lane to the summit. I passed two rock climbers just before the summit. There was an excellent view with wild horses dotted around. The descent was steep to the lane and reservoir. I took a small detour along the edge of the reservoir. At point '21' I turned right, not left. I then turned left at the reservoir alongside the edge of the water to return to the road before the dam. The walk had been excellent, with gorse and primroses on the wayside along much of the walk. A raven was sighted at the top of Sheeps Tor.
