Points of Interest and LINKS:
AA Walks Dunstanburgh Castle Liverpool Hole
Description:
Generally a flat walk excpet for a small rise around the castle. Parking on land by road into Craster Village for small fee. We parked by church near Jolly Fisherman pub. Walked past pub to harbour, which had a small sandy beach at low tide. Passed mermaid statue at entrance to harbour. Broad grassy track from '2' to castle entrance at '5'. Keep eyes and ears skinned for interesting wildlife throughout walk. The sea was fairly rough today. Lots of spray and foam from where the sea has crashed into the inlets along the shoreline. Good views of castle along the way, especially on a small hump at '3'. Steady ascent from '4' through castle gatehouse.

£2.60 to visit castle but free for National Trust and English Heritage members. Explored ruins and continued to castle point via Egyn Clough, a steep chasm under the walls of the castle. Crossed the stile from the castle grounds to Castle Point where fishermen were enjoying their sport. Suddenly lots of commotio when a fish was caught. We all knew the fish would end up on the dinner plate.

Excellent views across Embleton Bay from the point above the cliffs to the gatehouse via the Lilburn Tower. Suprising number of walkers and visitors for so late in the season. Steady walk back along the shoreline to the car.
