Pennine Way No.5 Total: 91.75 miles Description: Aire Head Springs very interesting. Tip-toed between springs. Breakfast in café in Malham. Bought milk from farm. Gordale Scar fascinating. Impressive steep gorge and wonderful limestone deposits at waterfall. Malham Cove very interesting. Easy to imagine the huge waterfall that once fell over the cove. Steep climb to top of cove. Rock formation on to very unusual., like a brain. Easy to trap foot down one of the gaps. Malham Tarn very big. 1229 ft above sea level. Great Close Scar impressive on left, as we walked on tarmac road around Malham Tarn. Hard walking down from Fountains Fell to Rainscar House Farm. Penyghent very impressive from Fountains Fell. Very steep walk to top, but not as bad as it looked. Hunt Pot fenced off. Very deep hole in ground. Long walled green road into Horton. Kath collected us in Land Rover. Location: Start of Walk Hazards: Care required when walking across top of Malham Cove. Easy to trap foot and break a leg. Penyghent very steep with lots of loose stones and rocks. Very boggy on descent, do not stray from path. At the worst boggy places wooden fencing on ground to enable walkers to gain a solid foothold.
